Audacity: the presence of Sister Rosetta Tharpe

Audacity: the presence of Sister Rosetta Tharpe

So bright, so full of verve and abundant soul, Sister Rosetta Tharpe is an absolute marvel. Watching the film Amelie, I was reminded of this woman and her inescapable talent. She is a force that cannot be reckoned with. This IS music. Tharpe wakes me up and quickens my appetite for life. She is often referred to as the Godmother of rock and soul, though she has not be well recognized. No matter the status allotted to her by those who supposedly determine influence, Tharpe’s raw expression and rare talent shine through in her performances. I appreciate her and am grateful that she had time to shine here on this Earth. There isn’t much else to say. I will let Sister Roesetta Tharpe take care of the rest.
